About Matt

A dedicated performer and educator within music

Matt McDonough’s professional career has seen him perform on TV, stages,
arenas and recording studio’s in over 50 countries across the world.

Matt is also significantly involved in education and is head of Popular Performance and Sound at City of London School


Having studied with Bob Armstrong as well as Trinity college of music on the Bmus Jazz course,

Matt Kicked off his international career with a 4 year world tour based out of Canada, during which time he also

spent a considerable amount of time each year working for the Disney organisation,

performing and recording at their American theme parks Disney world
in Florida and Disney Land, Los Angeles.


Matt returned to the UK where he continues to play and record with various big bands, artists, festivals
and TV shows including: Backyard Cinema, The Brit Awards, Top of the Pops, BBC Televison, Wishbone Ash, Afro
Celt Sound System, Melba Moore, Melissa Morgan, Bonnie Langford, Le Gateau Chocolat, West end/touring shows:
Little Shop of Horrors, We will Rock you (Tour/West end), Legally blonde (Tour), Thriller Live and various other
pop, rock, Jazz, RnB and even Canto-Pop artists!


Matt has a recording studio where he records for producers, artists and composers in music, 

film and video games, across the globe. 

Education work

Matt holds a Masters PGCert (distinction) in performance teaching from Guildhall School of Music and Drama

along with the Trinity College London Certificate for Music educators.

In addition to Matts position as Head of popular performance and Sound at City of London School, Matt has also been a panel member, composer and performer for both the London College of music and Trinity exam boards

worldwide drum kit syllabus' grades 1-8 (2013-2024).
